SR-205-003 (612) Revised 3/17/05 F:\FinancialOperations\Purchasing\STFRPTS\SRBD2885.DOC Council Meeting: March 22, 2005 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver One Hazardous Materials Response Apparatus, Bid #2885 Introduction This report recommends award of bid to furnish and deliver one Hazardous Materials Response Apparatus for the Fire Department in the total amount of $483,763.84 $484,792.21 including applicable sales tax. Background The Hazardous Materials Response apparatus will be used by Fire Department personnel to respond to incidents involving hazardous materials. It will replace a 1995 truck which is undersized and no longer capable of carrying the necessary personnel and equipment. Discussion In December 2004, the City published Notices Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver one Hazardous Materials Response apparatus in accordance with City specifications. Bids were received and publicly opened and read on March 10, 2005. Bid forms were sent to nineteen vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and 1 Municipal Code provisions. Two bids were received as follows: VENDOR AMOUNT SVI Trucks $483,763.84 $484,792.21 KME Fire Apparatus $579,707.98 $573,212.98 Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by SVI Trucks for one Hazardous Materials Response apparatus and finds that it meets City specifications. Budget/Financial Impact Budget authority for this purchase is in the Capital Improvement Budget account number C200607.589000, “Haz-Mat Response Vehicle”, funded by the FY 2004 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant, Haz-Mat section. Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council award Bid #2885 to SVI Trucks as the best bidder, in the total amount of $483,763.84 $484,792.21 including applicable sales tax.
