Recommendation to Award bid for 11 Transit Buses with
Option for 11 Addit~onal Buses. Bid No. 1697
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for 11 transit buses with a
six-month option for an additional 11 buses in the total amount
of $3,564,038.28 including applicable sales tax. Funds for this
purchase have been budgeted in account numbers 041-600-654-000-801,
802,803,804. (~ranspo~tation)
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and
deliver 11 transit buses plus a six-month option for 11 additional
buses at the SaLi.ie ~)rlce ~n accordance with City and UlvJ:TA sDecifica-
tions,bids were rece~ved and publicly opened and read on January 21st.
Proposal forms were ma~led to twelve prospective b~dders and
notices were advertised in accordance with U}lTA regulations,
City Charter and Munic~pal Code provisions. One proposal was
received from General Motors of Canada as follows Price for each
bus, del~vered as specified $162,001.74 The proposal includes a
six-month option to allow the City to purchase eleven additional
units at the same price This purchase Dust be ratified by
u}iTA, (Urban Mass Transportation Adm~n~stration) after Council approval.
The 11 optional buses will be purchased under this award upon approval
or a pending grant froul lJMTA.
Staff is pleased with the outcome of the bid process since the pro-
duct is the traditional "Dreamliner" Model GH Bus that has admirably
served the Santa Monica ~lunicipal Bus Lines for many years. The
new buses will be equipped to handle d~sabled
passengers.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to Oie&el Divis~cn, General
Aocors of Canada, London, Ontario in the total amount of
~~,~64,03S.28, ~ncludin6 tax, as the lo~est and best bidder.
