Recommendation to Award Bid for Automotive Hoses and Clamps

Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for various automotive hose arid clamp
needs at the unit prices bid for the period from June 1, 1982 through
May 31, 1983. Budgeted in account number 41-600-654-000-422
(Transportation)
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids (published April 25, 1982)
to furnish and deliver automot~ve hoses and clamps in accordance
with City speclflcations, blds were received and publicly opened and
read on May 6, 1982 Proposal forms were mailed to eighteen vendors
and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and
Municipal Code provis~ons. Two proposals were received as follows:

Sunbelt Distributors 6%-10% off Jobber net 6%-8% off jobber net
Santa Monica Auto Parts 45% off dealer cost 40% off retail
The Jobber net pr~ces are 43 6% to 61.4% lower than Dealer Retail
list prices, therefore Mr Parts' quotations off jobber net are lower
by 6%-26% than the quotation of Santa Monica Auto Parts.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to Mr Parts D1vision of
Sunbe1t Distributors, Anaheim, Californla,at the unit prices quoted
for the period June 1, 1982 through May 31, 1983 as the lowest and
best bidder.
