SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
Treated Lumber, Bid #2100
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver treated
lumber for the pier Management Department in the total amount of
$24,119.59 including applicable sales tax.
BackgI;'ound
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published March
2,3, 1987) to furnish and deliver treated lumber in accordance
with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened
and read on March 17, 1987. Proposal forms were mailed to nine
vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City
Charter and Municipal Code provisions. One proposal was received
as follows:
SOUTHLAND LUMBER & SUPPLY CO. INC. (WHEE)
$24,119.59
Few companies have the personnel and equipment to specially treat
lumber. Southland Lumber & Supply Co. Inc. is a large company
that frequently handles treated lumber, in addition to having the
facility to stock it.

BUdgetary/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1986/87 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the General Government Category of the Capital Improvement
budget, account number 20-740-625-000-926, Building Rehabili ta-
tion/Substructure Reinforcement ($15,998.96) and the pier Manage-
ment Division, General services Department, account number 30-
500-625-000-324 ($8,120.63).
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2100 be made to South-
land Lumber & Supply Co. Inc. in the total amount of $24,119.59
including tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
