SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Provide Bus Cleaning
service, Bid #2099
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to provide bus cleaning service
for the Transportation Department at specified unit prices and
two one-year options.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published March
14,16, 1987) to furnish bus Cleaning service in accordance with
City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and
read on March 26, 1987.
Proposal forms were mailed to four
vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City
Charter and Municipal Code provisions.
Three proposals were
received as follows:

A walk through was conducted to explain and clarify the
specifications for all of the bidders. Therefore, staff took all
precautions to acquaint all bidders with the scope of the
project.
The low bid is from a very competent company in the cleaning
business. The high bidder is apparently not familiar with this
type of service and the type of equipment and labor rates that
will be competitive.
BUdgetary/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1986/87 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Transportation Department, account number 41-600-657-000-
304.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2099 be made to
Sardo Bus & Coach Upholstery at specified unit prices and two
one-year options, as the lowest and best bidder.
