SUBJECT: Recommendation to Reject Bid to Furnish and Deliver
One (1) Standard Cab and Chassis and special Body,
Bid #2113
Introduction
This report concerns rejection of bid for one (1) standard cab
and chassis and special body for the Transportation Department.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published May 12,
13, 1987) to furnish and deliver one (1) standard cab and chassis
and special body in accordance with City specifications, bids
were received and publicly opened and read on June 4, 1987. Pro-
pasal forms were mailed to fourteen vendors and notices were ad-
vertised in accordance with city Charter and Municipal Code pro-
visions. Two proposals were received as follows:
THORSON GMC BUICK INC. $45,010.10
SANTA MONICA FORD $45,577.74
This vehicle will be used for emergency road service and is
equipped to handle all emergency needs.
staff has analyzed the bids and finds that both bids substantial-
ly exceed the amount provided in the FY 1986-87 budget
($20,000.00).

Staff wishes to explore other options for the purchase at prices
lower than this bid (e.g. bid separately for the cab and chassis,
and the special body).
Recommendation
It is recommended that Bid #2113 be rejected and staff be direct-
ed to rebid this requirement.
