In response to published Notice Inviting Bids (published 7-29)
to furn1sh and deliver bus replacement glass in accordance
with C~ty specifications, b~ds were received and publicly opened
and read on August 10, 1982 Proposal forms were mailed to
th~rteen vendors and notices were advertised ln accordance with
CLty Charter and Municipal Code provisions. One proposal was
received from McFarling Glass Corp Bus glass is a very
speclalized comrnodlty A complete range of such glass as 1S
needed by the City covers several different models of each of
three different brands of bus. Requlrementsof this bid were des1gned
to minimize the stock that the Transportation Department would
have to carry and places the burden of warehous1ug on the vendor.
ThlS is probably why there was only one response. The unit prices
bid are substantially less than those charged by the bus
manufacturers and are much more readlly available through McFar11ng
