ThlS report concerns award of b1d for one new and unused 10,500
GVW cab and chassls with special service body for the Water D1Vl-
Sl.on of the General Serv~ces Department in the total amount of
$16,S08.S7, l.nclud~ng appl~cable sales tax.

In response to publlshed Notlces Inviting Bids (publl.shed January
18 and 19, 1986 )
to furnlsh and deliver one new and unused
10,500 GVW cab and chass~s wlth speclal service body in accor-
dance wlth City specif1catlonsl b~ds were recelved and publicly
opened and read on February 18, 1986. Proposal forms were malled
to thlrty-n1ne vendors and notices were advertlsed in accordance
wlth Clty Charter and Municipal Code provlslons. One proposal was
received as follows:

was recelved for $16/S08.S7. Council therefore reJected that bld

10,500 GVW Cab and Chassis with a speclal serVlce type body. The
special service body is requlxed to be mounted on the cab and
chaSS1S. The cab and chassls lS standard but the serVlce body
requires the vendor to be capable of obtainlng and mountAng the
special serVlce type body as per the speciflcatlons. As a result
of surveying the vendors that dld not submit a bld, lt was con-
firmed that most vendors are generally reluctant to b1d th~s type
of equlpment because of the addlt10nal work lnvolved ln preparAng
the bld and providing the serVlce.
Staff has checked the bid and finds that it meets our speclfica-
tlons, and is below the est1mated budget flgure. Therefore, staff
recommends that the bld be awarded to Thorson GMC Bu~ck, Inc.
