Introduct1.on
This report concerns award of bid for miscellaneous bottled gases
at the unit prices bid for the period from September I, 1982,
through August 30, 1983 Funds for thlS purchase are budgeted in
account numbers 25-500-671-000-401 (Water), 01-300-311-000-401 (Fire),
41-600-654-000-429(Transportation) and 01-400-623-000-324 (Rec & Parks)
Background
In response to published Notlce Inviting Bids (publlshed 7-29) to
furnish and de11ver miscellaneous bottled gases in accordance W1.th
C1ty specifications, bids were recelved and publicly opened and read
on August 10, 1982 Proposal forms were mailed to eleven vendors
and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and
Munlc1pa1 Code provisions. Five proposals were received one of which
(Big j Industries) was non-responsive ln that no affidav1.t of non-
collus1.on was included as required and no bidder's bond was submitted.
The four responsive bids are on the attached schedule.
Reconnnendation
It is recommended that the award be made as follows To Amweld, Inc.,
Long Beach, California, an MBE, on items 1,7A,8,lO and II, to ABSCO
Distributing, Torrance, California, an MBE,on items 2A and 3, to
American Welding & Industrial Sales, Burbank, California, an tiBE,on
ltems 2B,2C,4A,4B,5,7B,7C,7D,7E,9C and 9D, and to Sims Welding Supply
Co., Inc., Gardena, California, on items 6,9A and 9B at the unit
pr1.ces bid for the period September 1, 1982 through August 31, 1983,
as tne lowest and best b1dders in each instance.
