SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
Brake Linings and Shoes for Transit Coaches, Bid #2118
Introduction
This report concerns award of a one-year bid to furnish and
deliver brake linings and shoes for transit coaches for the
Transportation Department at the specified unit prices, plus
applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (publiShed June 11
and 12, 1987) to furnish and deliver brake linings and shoes for
transit coaches in accordance with city specifications, bids were
received and publicly opened and read on June 23, 1987. Proposal
forms were mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with city Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Two
proposals were received as follows:

The bid consisted of eight various types of brake linings and
shoes for transit coaches. Staff has evaluated both of the bids
based on the cost of a representative array of brake supplies.
The lowest and best bid is from Hausman Bus Sales & Parts Co..
This bid meets city specifications.
BUdgetary/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1987/88 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the various maintenance accounts of the Transportation
Department. As the materials are drawn out of inventory, they
will be expensed against available FY 1987/88 appropriation
authority. Appropriation authority for the period July 1, 1988
thru August 14, 1988 will be as set forth in the FY 1988/89
budget.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2118 be made to
Hausman Bus Sales & Parts Co. at the specified unit prices, plus
applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
