on July 12, 1986
INTRODUCTION
This report transmits a request from the Santa Monica Girls' Club
to hold a celebrity fundraising tennis tournament on Saturday
July 12, 1986, 7:00 am-7:00 pm, in Lincoln Park.
BACKGROUND
The Girls' Club would like to hold a celebrity tennis tournament
in which 24 patrons would pay $200 each to play in a doubles
tennis match or matches with one of 24 celebrity participants.
The event would utilize the six tennis courts at Lincoln Park.
There would be a $3.00 general admission fee for access to the
stadium seats and standing room around the various tennis courts
for spectators.
A $25 VIP luncheon ticket would also be available to partici-
pants. Food, including hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, soda pop,
would also be sold during the tennis matches and a celebrity
photo booth would be available for those interested in purchasing
a $2-3 photo taken with a celebrity. Lastly, a fashion show and
auction would be presented in the center court. The Girls' Club
would provide their own security and Clean-up crews and have a

nurse on the premises during the event. No alcoholic beverages
would be sold or allowed on the premises in conjunction with this
event. Planners propose to enclose the area between Miles
Playhouse and the tennis courts with a tent to control ingress
and egress to the event.
At its February 20th meeting Recreation and Parks commission
unanimously approved this request and recommends the city council
appove it for the Girls' Club.
BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
The only known cost to the City for this event would be the $240
in reservation fees lost due to inability to utilize the 6 tennis
courts.
The Girls' Club anticipates netting $20,000 from this fundraising
effort. $5,000 would be paid to the producer, David Mirisch
Enterprises (see attached materials). Income would be produced
through advertising sold for the program, the auction, the $200
patron fee, the food sold at the event I and admission fees.
RECmfMENDATIONS
The Staff recommends that:
1. The City Council approve use of Lincoln Park tennis courts
for the First Annual Girls' Club Celebrity Tennis Tournament.
2. The Staff also recommends that council waive the $240 fee for
reservation of the tennis courts.
