Pneumatic Tires and Tubes to be Leased for Use on Buses
of the Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines, Bid Number
2154
INTRODUCTION
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver
pneumatic tires and tubes to be leased for use on buses of the
Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines for the Transportation
Department at specified unit prices quoted for the period from
February 1, 1988, through January 31, 1991, with two additional
one-year options.
BACKGROUND
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
October 9 and 12, 1987) to furnish and deliver pneumatic tires
and tubes to be leased for use on buses of the Santa Monica
Municipal Bus Lines in accordance with City specifications, bids
were received and publicly opened and read on November 3, 1987.
proposal forms were mailed to five vendors and notices were
advertised in accordance with city Charter and Municipal Code
provisions.
Lease fees under this purchase will amount to
approximately $160,000.00 per year and will escalate or be

city specifications.
BUDGETARY/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Fiscal Year 1987/88 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Transportation Department, account number 41-600-658-
000-411. The estimated budgetary impact for the following years
are: FY 1988/89, $160,000.00; FY 1989/90, $160,000.00; and FY
1990/91, $93,332.00.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2154 be made to
Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, Akron, Ohio, at specified unit
prices quoted for the period from February 1, 1988, through
January 31, 1991, with two one-year optional extensions as the
lowest and best bidder.
