SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
Brass Fittings, Bid Number 2156
INTRODUCTION
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and del i ver brass
fittings for the Water Division, General Services Department, at
specified unit prices, plus applicable sale tax.
BACKGROUND
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
October 22 and 23, 1987) to furnish and deliver brass fittings in
accordance with City specifications, bids were received and
publicly opened and read on November 10, 1987.
Proposal forms
were mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with city Charter and Municipal Code provisions. One
proposal was received as follows:

$55,290.55
As a result of surveying the vendors which did not submit a bid,
two of the vendors failed to remember the closing date. One
vendor submitted a late bid, which could not be considered. They

requested a review of the bid from James Jones Company. Upon
review, they informed city staff that their prices were higher
anyway.

Company is lower than the bid they were awarded in 1986.
Bt!DGETARY/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Fiscal 1987/88 appropriation authority for this purchase is in
the Water Division maintenance account. As the materials are
drawn out of inventory, they will be expensed against available
FY 1987/88 appropriation authority_ For the period July 1, 1988,
through November 30, 1988, appropriation authority will be as set
forth in the FY 1988/89 budget.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2156 be made to James
Jones company at specified unit prices, plus tax, as the lowest
and best bidder.
