Council Meeting October 14, 1986
Santa Monica, California
TO:
MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM:
CITY STAFF
SUBJECT:
Recommendation To Reject Bid For Two (2) Four
Door Sedans for the prevention/Education Division
of the Fire Department, Bid # 2078.
Introduction
This report concerns rej ection of the bid for two four door
sedans.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published August
19,20, 1986) to furnish and deliver two (2) new and unused four
door Sedans in accordance with City specifications, bids were
received and publicly opened and read on September 9, 1986.
Proposal forms were mailed to five (5) vendors and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code
provisions. The WMBE directory did not contain any firms which
sell this type of vehicle. One proposal was received as follows:
Santa Monica Ford
$22,963.52
The vendors that did not bid this requirement were contacted as
to why they did not respond.
Their excuses showed a lack of
interest in bidding these vehicles. The only difficult item in
the specifications is the request for the air bag safety
restraint system.

staff feels that more than one competitive bid may be obtained by
rebidding. The bid list will be revised to include other dealers
who can supply these vehicles and respond to the bid request.
Therefore, staff is requesting that the bid from Santa Monica
Ford be rejected and that this requirement be rebid.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the bid be rejected and staff be directed
to rebid this requirement.
