Recommendation To Award Bid For One (1) 10,500
Gross Vehicle weight Cab & Chassis with Stake Bed and
Lift Gate, Bid # 2077
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for one (1) 10,500 Gross Vehi-
cle Weight Cab & Chassis with stake bed and lift gate for the
Water Division, General Services Department in the total amount
of $17,466.00, including applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published August
19,20, 1986)
to furnish and del i ver one (1) new and unused
10,500 Gross Vehicle Weight Cab & Chassis with stake bed and lift
gate in accordance with city specifications, bids were received
and publicly opened and read on September 9, 1986.
Proposal
forms were mailed to six (6) vendors and notices were advertised
in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.
The ~~BE directory did not contain any firms which sell this type
of vehicle. One proposal was received as follows:
Claude Short Dodge
$17,466.00
The specifications require the installation of a specially
equipped service body to a standard cab & chassis.
The vendors
that did not submit bids were contacted.

They stated that their units would exceed the minimum quality
specification required in the bid. Therefore, the quality level-
that they would be required to bid would increase their costs and
they would not be able to be competitive.
In 1984, Thorson GMC Buick was awarded a similar bid in the total
amount of $21,539.63. They indicated, however, that they could
not meet the specifications this year because they do not have
the personnel to install the stake bed and lift gate as required
by the specifications.
The cost savings on the 1986 quoted bid price as opposed to the
1984 bid is $4,073.63. Staff has evaluated the bid from ClaUde
Short Dodge and finds that it meets our specifications and is
below the estimated budget figure for fiscal year 1986-87.
Budgetary/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1986/87 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Water Division, General Services Department, account num-
ber 25-500-671-000-806.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2077 be made to
Claude Short Dodge in the total amount of $17,466.00, including
sales tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
