Recommendation To Award Bid for (1) Four Cubic Yard
Diesel Powered street Sweeper for the Waste
COllection/Disposal Division of the General Services
Department, Bid # 2075.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for one (1) four cubic yard
diesel powered street sweeper for the Waste Collection/Disposal
Division, General Services Department in the total amount of
$91,302.45, including applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published August
19,20, 1986) to furnish and deliver one (1) four cubic yard die-
sel powered street sweeper in accordance with City specifica-
tions, bids were received and publicly opened and read on septem-
ber 9, 1986. Proposal forms were mailed to five (5) vendors and
notices were advertised in accordance with city Charter and
Municipal Code provisions. One proposal was received as follows:

$91,302.45
Three "no bids" were received, with comments such as, "not in-
terested in bidding at this time". FMC quoted the same equipment
in 1984, but they declined to bid because they did not feel they
would be competitive, since their previous bid was $4,200 higher

than the low bidder. Staff contacted other municipalities and
confirmed they are experiencing the same problem of obtaining
responses from bidders for similar equipment. Several of the
municipalities contacted, used the same bidders list as utilized
by the City of Santa Monica.
staff has checked the bid and finds that it meets our specifica-
tions and is within the budget estimate. Therefore, staff recom-
mends that the bid be awarded to Nixon Egli Equipment Co.
Budgetary/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1986/87 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the General Government category of the capital Improvement
Program budget, account number 27-710-441-000-910, "Refuse Vehi-
cle Replacement Program".
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2075 be made to
Nixon Egli Equipment Co. in the total amount of $91,302.45,
including applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
