Introduction
The Seruor ci tl.zens Nutri b.on AdVl.sory Councl.l has revl.ewed the bl.ds
received for proVlding rooal services to the Seruor Cl. tizens Nutri tJ..on
and Recreatl.on program for F1.sca1 Year 1984-85.
After reviaNing the bids, and visiting the caterers' kitchens, the
Santa Nonica Semor C~ tizens Nutri t:Lon Adv~sory COUJ1.Cl.l (NA.C), wluch
is conprised of elected representatives of the four nutn,tion S1.WS
and appol.nted rrembers at large, passed the folla.ving rrotJ.on:

bid of $2.25 which includes the coffee, tea, etc. ff The rootion was
passed unam.rrously by the nine members present.

Bl.d specl.fication packages were ma.l.led to mne (9) food se~ll.ce
carpames by the Purchas1.ng Department on April 16, 1984. Notices
were advertl.sed 1.n accordance with the Nurucl.pal Code for the r.-1ay 1,
1984 bl.d opemng. Three catering ccxrpanies submitted the follCMing bl.ds:
Century $2.25 with coffee and tea*
Sorensen $ 2.23 without coffee

The Santa Moruca-t-1ahbu Unibed School was elinu.nated fran further
cons~deration due to their s~gnificantly mgher b~d. The rema~ning
two b~ds were considered bas1.cally the same fran a cost perspective, so the
CounC1.1 exarm..ned the other aspects of the1.r servJ..ce proposal.
On May 3, 1984, the Project Directorl ACb.ng project D1.rector and
Nutr1. b.onist, along Wl. th four Advl.sory COUllCl.l rrerrt>ers, l.nspected
Sorensen I S and Century I s kitchens.
Because Sorensen 1.S the present
caterer, Advisory Cormcil Merrbers are already famihar with their food
and no meals were tasted dur1.ng the V1.S1. t. At Century's kl tchen, they
were unable to sarrple any rreals, as they had recently rroved to a nEW
facll1.ty.
On 14ay 7, 1984, the Adv1.sory Councll net to d1.scuss the informat1.on
that had been gathered at the Slte v1.sitations, and to dec1.de wh1.ch
caterlng carpany they wanted to recomrrend to the Cl.ty CounC1.l.
All. ta Rethmeyer, proJect Dletl t1.an, was also present at this meetJ..ng.
Because of their satJ..sfact1.on Wl th Sorensen's present cater1.llg
services, and the ~nabllity to sanple the alternative bldder's
product, along W1.th the~r percepllons from their Slte Vlsits on
kl tchen capaci hes and loca hOns, the Nutrl. hon AdvlSOry Councll
declded that 1. t would be l.n the best 1.nterest of the senior Cl tizens
that Sorensen' s b1.d of $2.25 per meal be recormended to the City
CounC1.l for acceptance.

Recarnendahon
The Semor Nutr1 tion Staff and the NUtr1 hon Adv~sory Council
reconmend that the C1 ty Councll accept the b1d of Sorensen Catering
at $2.25 to p:rov~de rooal serv~ce for the 1984-85 f~scal year to the
Semor C1uzens Nutrition and Recreation Program.
