SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
Ductile Iron Bell and Spigot Pipe, Bid Number 2163
INTRODUCTION
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver ductile
iron bell and splgot pipe (class 50 Tyton jOlnt) as requested by
the Water Divlslon, General Services Department, at specifled
unit prices plus applicable sales tax.
BACKGROUND
In response to publlshed Notices Inviting Bids (publlshed
December 3 and 4, 1987) to furnish and deliver ductile lron bell
and Splgot pipe in accordance with City speclfications, bids were
recelved and publicly opened and read on December 22, 1987.
Proposal forms were mailed to three vendors and notlces were
advertised in accordance with city Charter and Municipal Code
provislons. Two proposals were rece1ved as follows:

staff has researched other vendors and flnds that the above
bidders are the only manufacturers of this type of pipe on the
West Coast and are used by other states. Staff has evaluated the
bids and finds that the bld from U. S. Plpe & Foundry meets City
specifications and is below previous bid prices for FY 1986/87.
BUDGETARY/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Flscal Year 1987/88 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Water Division maintenance account. As the materials are
drawn out of inventory, they will be expensed against available
FY 1987/88 approprlation authority. For the period July 1, 1988,
through December 31, 1988, appropriatlon authority will be as set
forth in the FY 1988/89 budget.
RECOMMENDATION
It 1S recommended that the award of Bld #2163 be made to U. S.
Plpe and Foundry at speclfied unlt prices plus tax, as the lowest
and best bidder.
