SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
Ductile Iron Bell and spigot Pipe (Class 50 Tyton
Joint), Bid #2088
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver ductile
iron bell and spigot pipe (class 50 Tyton Joint) as requested by
the Water Division, General Services Department at specified unit
prices excluding applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published October
23, 24, 1986) to furnish and deliver ductile iron bell and spigot
pipe (class 50 Tyton Joint) in accordance with City specifica-
tions, bids were received and pUblicly opened and read on Novem-
ber 6, 1986. Proposal forms were mailed to three (3) vendors and
notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and
Municipal Code provisions. The WMBE directory did not contain
any f inns in the pipe business (sales).
Two proposals were
received as follows:
PACIFIC STATES CAST IRON US PIPE & FOUNDRY
1. 6" CLASS 50 4.91 FT. 4.95 FT.
2. 8" CLASS 50 6.77 FT. 6.83 FT.
3. 12" CLASS 50 11. 43 FT. 11. 53 FT.

staff has researched other vendors and finds that the above bid-
ders are the only manufacturers of this type of pipe on the West
Coast and are used by other states. staff has evaluated the bids
and finds that the bid from Pacific states Cast Iron meets our
specifications.
BUdgetary/Financial Impact
As materials are drawn out of inventory, they will be expensed
against available appropriation authority in the Water Division,
General services Department.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2088 be made to Pacific
states Cast Iron Pipe Company at specified unit prices excluding
sales tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
