SR-205-003 (263) -~- > . . 6-6 SEP 2 3 l~ij:) .2??S-007 Santa ~onica, Callfornla, September 11, 1980 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Request for an Appropriation of $8,958.22 to Complete the Purchase of a Ten-Wheel Truck-Tractor Introduction Due to a need to change bld speciflcatlons and also due to an error made by the low bldder by interchanging b1ds on two items, it is requested that Council approprlate $8,958.22 to complete the purchase of a truck-tractor for seml- tra1ler use. Background The biddlng error occurred when Carmenita Ford, the low bidder, reversed bids on two ltems of a mult1ple vehicle bid request. This reversal caused Carmenlta Ford to be high on one item (a dump truck) and low on the other item, the truck-tractor that 1S the subject of thlS report. Had the bids been sub- mitted correctly, Carmenita Ford would stlll have been the low bidder on this vehlcle. Their reversed bid made Carmenita approx1mately $4.000 lower than their lntended bid. The speclfication chanqes were required when the City recently acqulred a longer alum1num seml-trailer for refuse hauling. Th1S tra1ler requlres that the chassis of the truck-tractor have a shorter wheelbase to be street legal. Th1S reqUlrement made 1t necessary to change the configuration of the ent1re vehicle. Carmenita Ford has located a suitable unit and has bid 546,141.28 for th1S unit. No other supplier has been located that can furnlsh the requlred 6-0 SEP 2 3 ECJ . . Of the remaining fleet of four truck-tractors, one un1t 1S lnoperat1ve due to a major overhaul, leaving only three un1ts available to haul refuse transfer trailers.
