Recommendation to award for Portable Cardiac Telemetry
and Voice Radio Unit.
Introduction
This report concerns award of Portable Cardiac Telemetry and
Voice Radio in the total amount of $5,331.27 including
applicable sales tax. Funds for this purchase have been budgeted
in account number 01-300-311-000-950.
Background
Two (2) of the additional Cardio-Telemetry Units presently
under consideration are to be put into service in the ~vo (2)
new ambulances to provide increased service to the community.
The third will be used to replace older equipment. ~~ile the
Fire Department has both ReA and Medical Communications &
Instrumentation units in service, they have found that the spare
parts and the repair service from MCI are superior. MCI has
offered to provide these units under the advantageous terms and
conditions of their contract with Los Angeles County. Other
cities which purchase from MCI on these terms include Hawthorne,
Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and El Segundo
Recorrrrnendation
It is recorrrrnended the formal bid procedure be waived and that
the award be made to Medical Corrrrnunications & Instrumentation
in the total amount of $5,331 27, including tax.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA WAIVING FURTHER FOfu~L BID PROCEDURE AND AUTHOR-
IZING DIRECT NEGOTIATION FOR PURCHASE OF THREE (3) POR-
TABLE CARDIAC TELEMETRY/VOICE RADIO UNITS.
w~EREAS. the City of Santa Monica Fire Department has a
requirement for three (3) Portable Cardiac Telemetrv/Voice Radio
Units.
w~EREAS, MedralCommunications and Instrumentation has offered
to provide these units under the same terms and conditions as those
extended to Los Angeles County. (Contract #1930)
WHEREAS, Medical Communication & Instrumentation is located in
Canoga Park, CA and can provide good service on equipment and
furnishing spare parts.
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOL\~ AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council finds that the requirement
exists to purchase the three (3) Portable Cardiac Telemetry and Voice
Radio units.
SECTION 2. That further bid solicitation would cause unnecessary
expense and delay.
SECTION 3. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to excute
a purchase agreement for the equipment.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.
