SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver One 4x2 8-Yard Dump
Collection Vehicle, Bid# 2821
Introduction
This report recommends award of bid to furnish and deliver one 4x2 8-yard dump collection
vehicle for the Street Maintenance Division, Environmental & Public Works Management
Department, in the total amount of $115,611.00, including applicable sales tax.
Background
The CNG-powered dump collection vehicle will be used by Street Maintenance personnel for
transporting asphalt, sand and gravel to various work locations and will replace a 1981
International dump truck, which is no longer cost effective to maintain and is part of the
Vehicle Replacement Program.
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published November 19 and 24, 2000) in
accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on
December 11, 2000. Proposal forms were mailed to fourteen vendors and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Proposal forms
requested vendors to quote on six fuel sources, including CNG. Two proposals were
received as follows:

The purchase of this CNG-powered dump collection vehicle is consistent with the Citys

reduced emissions fuel policy. Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City
specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Budget authority for this purchase is in the Capital Improvement Budget account numbers
C54016700.589000, Fleet Vehicle Replacement Program”.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid # 2821 be made to LA Freightliner in the amount of
$115,611.00, including applicable sales tax, as the lowest responsible bidder.
