SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award bid for Automotive and Truck
Parts and Supplies, effective 11arch 1, 1981 Through
February 28, 1982. Bid No. 1585
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for Automotive and Truck Parts
and Supplies in the total estimated amount of $65,000.00 including
applicable sales tax. Funds for this purchase have been budgeted
in various accounts
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and
deliver Automotive and Trucks Parts & Supplies in accordance
with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened
and read January 29, 1981. Proposal forms were mailed to eighteen
vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City
Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Three proposals were
received.
Bid number 1585 is for purchase of Heavy Diesel as well as Gasoline
Driven Automotive parts
The evaluation was predicated on the Discount Off "List Prices"
of approximately twenty five "lines" or brands.

Research by Staff has determined that although some manufacturers
make parts and supplies for both Diesel (Heavy Duty Trucks &
Construction Equipment) as well as gasoline driven equipment (Light
Trucks and automobiles) no vendor has the capacity to stock both
types of parts. M & M Truck Parts, Inc. specializes in Diesel parts
and Mr. Parts - Sunbelt Distributor specializes in parts for
gasoline driven automobiles and light trucks. C. H. Carter bid
only on six items and submitted a "no bid" on the balance of
the bid. As a result, M & M Truck, Inc is considered to be the
lowest and best bidder for Diesel & Heavy Duty Truck parts & ~r.
Parts Division, Sunbelt Division is considered to be the lowest
and best bidder for gasoline driven truck and automobile parts.

Reconnnendation
It is recoliruended that the award be made to M & ~ Truck Parts, Inc.
in the total estimated amount of $50,000 00, including tax and
Mr Parts-Sunbelt Distributor in the estimated amount of $15,000.00
including tax.
