SUBJECT: RecoTIrraendation to Award Bid for Various Bottled Welding
Gases, Bid No. 1634.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for Oxygen, Acetylene, Helium,
Nitrogen, Chlorine, Argon and other bottled gases for ,,;elding. Funds
for ehe purchase of these gases have been allocated in various
departmental accounts (J:ransportation ,Water ,Hechanical :'1aintenance,
Fire) in the current budget.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and
deliver the above bottled gases in accordance with City Specificatlons
bids were received and publically opened and read July 21, 1981.
Proposal forms were uai1ed to fourteen vendors and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code
provisions. Six proposals were received, as shovm on the attached
recap sheet.
Items 1,2 and 9 bid by ~erican Welding are unusually 10\J. ~erican
Welding did not submit a bid bond as is required by the specifications.
Re cOImTIendat ion
Since the bid of ~erican welding was without the required bidders
bond, and American Welding has failed to respond to repeated
requests for the submission of the bldders bond, it is re-
commended that the City Council reject their bid as non-resvonsive.
It is recommended that the awards be made as follows:
