SUBJECT: Recommendation to Uaive Formal Bidding Procedure for
Procurement of Data Processing Terminals and Accessories
Introduction
This report seeks approval by the City Council to waive
formal bidding procedure for the purchase of a Hewlett-Packard
Graphics Terminals(2) and related equipment. The estimated cost of
the proposed equipment is $12,500.00. Funds for this purchase have
been budgeted in account # 25-500-671-000-802.
Background
The City's main frame data processor is a Hewlett Packard 3000.
Procurement of terminals and related equipment in some instances
is limited by the data processing staff to Hewlett-Packard brand in
order to assure complete compatibility with the main-frane computer.
This procurement is one instance where the needed terminal and
related equipment must be Hewlett-Packard brand and is a pro-
prietary item manufactured solely by Hewlett-Packard Company.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution
which wa~ves formal bidding procedures and authorizes
the City Manager to execute a negotiated contract for the purchase
of the graphics terminal and related equipment from Hewlett-Packard
Company, Los Angeles, CA.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA HONICA I:-JAIVWG FORH.AL BIDDING PROCEDURES
AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY UANAGER TO PURCHASE A
GRAPHICS TERNINAL AND RELATED EQUIPI'lENT FROH
HE\~ETT-PACKARD COMPANY.
HHEREAS, there is only one fim known which can supply the
needed graphics terminal and related equipment, and
WHEREAS, Section 2506A(1) exempts this procurenent from the
bidding process.
NOIV' THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAi-<TA 110NICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council hereby resolves to waive formal
bidding process for the procurement of a Hewlett-Packard Graph~cs
Terminal and related equipment.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to eXecute
a negotiated contract on the open market for the procurement of
the terminal and equipment.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be in full force and effect.
