Staff recommends that the City Council award bid to Boerner Truck Center to furnish
and deliver four refuse trucks, Bid# 2914.
Executive Summary
This report recommends that the City Council award a bid to furnish and deliver four
refuse trucks with Amrep body to Boerner Truck Center, in the total amount of
$884,497.76, including applicable sales tax. This purchase is funded by contributions
from the Solid Waste Fund to the Vehicle Replacement Program.
Discussion
Backqround
The front load refuse trucks are used by Solid Waste Management personnel for
collecting trash, recyclables, and landscape waste and are among the most heavily
used vehicles in the City's fleet. They will replace vehicles scheduled for replacement
as part of the City's Vehicle Replacement Program.

Vendor Selection
In June 2006, the City published Notices Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver four refuse
trucks in accordance with City specifications. Bids were received and publicly opened
on August 29, 2006. Bid forms were mailed to nine vendors and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Two
vendors provided a variety of options per Attachment A.
Bids were evaluated based on competitive pricing, body type, and additional available
options. Based upon these criteria, Boerner Truck Center is the best bidder.
Budget/Financial Impact
Funds for this purchase are available in account C540167.589200, "Fleet Vehicles
Replacement Program".
