SUBJECT. Recommendation to Award Bid for Paint and Painting
Supplies for the City of Santa Monica. Bid # 1689
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for paint and painting supplies
for the period of November 1, 1981, through October 3l, 1982,
as needed. Funds for this purchase have been budgeted in
various accounts within the operating department's budget.
~ackground _
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and
deliver p~int and painting supplies in accordance with City
specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and
read on October 27, 1981. Proposal forms were mailed to thirteen
manufacturers and distributors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.
Two proposals were received as noted on the attached schedule.
The paint and painting supplies covered in this bid are ordered by
the Central Warehouse for use by various operating departments
of the City The Sinclair Paints & Dunn Edwards Corporation
bids are both advantageous to the City with each vendor being low
bidder on several of the items. It would be to the City's
advantage to accept both proposals and order from the low bidder
in each case, reta~ning the other firm's product for back-up
in order to maintain warehouse stocks since one supplier
may be temporarily out of stock on a needed item from time to time.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to Sinclair Paint Co. and
Dun Edwards Corporation for paint and paint supplies as bid
for the period November l, 1981, through October 31, 1982,as the
lowest and best bidders
