SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver Dry
Caustic Soda, Bid #2422
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver dry
caustic soda for the Water Division, General Services Department,
at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, and two
one-year renewal options.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 15
and 16, 1992) to furnish and deliver dry caustic soda in
accordance with City specifications, bids were received and
publicly opened and read on June 29, 1992. Proposal forms were
mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised in accordance
with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Two proposals
were received as follows:

Dry caustic soda is used by the Water Division in the standard pH
adjustment procedure.
staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City
specifications.
BUdget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1992/93 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Water Division, General Services Department, account
number 25-500-671-00000-4401-00000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2422 be made to Jones
Chemicals, Inc. at specified unit prices, plus applicable tax,
and two one-year renewal options, as the lowest and best bidder.
