SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver Dry
caustic Soda, Bid #2247
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver dry
caustic soda for the Water Division, General Services Department,
per specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax.

In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
September 14 and 15, 1989) to furnish and deliver dry caustic
soda in accordance with city specifications, bids were received
and publicly opened and read on september 26, 1989.
Proposal
forms were mailed to seven vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Four
proposals were received as follows:

Dry caustic soda is used for the City's standard pH adjustment
procedure by the Water Division. Staff has evaluated the low bid
and finds that it meets City specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1989/90 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Water Division, General Services Department, account
number 25-500-67l-00000-440l-00aoo.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2247 be made to Western
states Chemical supply Corp. at specified unit prices, plus
applicable sales tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
