AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AMENDING SECTIONS 2234 AND 2501
OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
AND REPEALING SECTIONS 2224 AND 2225
OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH A PURCHASING
DIVISION WITHIN THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Section 2234 of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
Section 2234.
Finance Department.
Pursuant to Section 702 of the City Charter,
there is hereby created a department in the
Ci ty government to be known as the Finance
Department.
Within the Finance Department
shall be the Clty Controller, the City
Treasurer, and the Purchasino Dlvision.
SECTION 2.
Section 2501 of the Santa Monica Hunicipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
Section 2501.

appointed by the Director of Finance in
accordance with c1vil service regulations.
SECTION 3. Sections 2224 and 2225 of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code are repealed.
SECTION 4. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code or appendices thereto inconsistent with the provisions of
this ordinance, to the extent of such inconsistencies and no
further, are hereby repealed or modified to that extent necessary
to affect the provisions of this ordinance.
SECTION 5. If any sect1on, sUbsection, sentence, clause,
or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid
or unconstitutional by a decision of any court of any competent
jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remain1ng portions of the ordinance. The City Council hereby
declares that it 'ft'Ould have passed this ordinance and each and
every sect1on, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase not
declared 1nvalid or unconsti tutional without regard to whethe r
any portlon of the ordinance would be subsequently declared
inval1d or unconstitutional.

SECTION 6.
The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this ordinance.
The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper
wi th1n 15 days after its adoptlon.
The ord1nance shall become
effective after 30 days from its adoption.
