SUBJECT: Mid-Year Budget Status Report
Introduction
ThIS report recommends the City adopt the attached resolution
WhICh instructs the City Manager to prepare a mid-year budget
status report.
Discussion
A mid-year budget report will provi~e Council with
Information on the current and proJected status of revenues,
expenditures, and fund balances. The report will enable the
City to evaluate whether mid-year changes in expendIture
levels are necessary.
Also, information obtained from a
mid-year budget review will be used as a starting point for
the preparatIon of next year's budget.

It will not, however, require any additional
appropriations.
Recommendation

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA I~STRUCTING THE CITY MANAGER
TO PREPARE A MID-YEAR BUDGET STATUS REPORT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the City Council needs to be informed in a
timely manner of significant budgetary trends and issues in
order to effectively carry out Its oversight and legislative
responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to be informed of
the current and proj ected status of revenues, expend i tures,
and fund balances; and
WHEREAS, after reviewing the City's financial
status the City may wish to change its current level of
expenditures; and
WHEREAS, information obtained from a mid-year
budget review will aid in the preparation of next year' s
budget;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
The City Manager shall prepare a
mid-year budget status report. Such report shall be prepared
in a timely manner and shall address the current and
projected status of revenues, expenditures, fund balances,
and such other matters as the City Manager deems appropriate.
SECTION 2.
The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption 0 f this Resol ut ion, and thencefo rth and therea fte r
the same shall be in full force and effect.
