Dan Cohen spoke in support of the recommendation on behalf of the Commission on Older Amer1cans. Councilmember Zane moved to direct the City Attorney to prepare a resolution to send to appropriate legislators strongly opposing cutbacks in the Social Security System and urging that the federal government main- tain the highest possible level of financial support to the senior citizen populat1on re11ant upon social security. Second by Councilmember Press. Dur1ng d1Scussion, Councilmember Zane included in the motion the request of Councilmember Press that, in addition to sending the resolution to representatives, the resolution and a differently worded, strong letter be sent by the Mayor to the President reminding him that this was one of the key factors in his campaign.
