of a family pass for a year for the Santa Monica Pier Carousel to be
contrlbuted as a premium In KCRWls annual subscription campaign.

Dear ~ayor Reed:
I am writing to ask your and the City Council's approval of a project that I
feel could be beneficial to both KCRW and an important Santa ~onlca municlpal
endeavor -- promoting the Santa Monica Pier restoration.
KCRH is gean.ng up for lts&I}DUal Subscription Campaign .111np 8 to 17/bY lining up
premiums to be offered for various levels of donations. We f~t a most
valuable and desirable prgnium would be a Family Pass for a year for the Santa
Monica Pie~.Carrousel. Such a pass could-be issued to be good for perhaps four
persons, chl1dren or adults, with special safeguards built in to prevent misuse
by requirlng identification,etc. I am sure the details could be worked out.
We feel that this would be one of our top-value premiums, and could be offered
to a donor at the $200 or $300 level. These premiums obviously appeal to a
select group of listeners, and hence we anticipate announcing the premium offer
on the air several t~eB during our drive before it is snapped up. ThlS would
give our on-air announcers plenty of opportunity to discuss the Carrousel and
the entire Santa ~onica Pier development program -- something that we feel
could be a valuable adjunct to your D.vn public relations program.
I am asking you to place this on the City Council agenda for consideration and
approval by the Council. I hope you or any other Council member will feel
free to call me if there are any questions or if you have any additional
suggestions on how to 1mplement this particular premium offer. We feel that
an annual pass, good for any tiITe the Carrousel is in operationl could 1deally
be telli~ed with a poster or similar memento.

6-F: PIER CAROUSEL: Presented was a staff report recommending
approval of a change order to contractor Joe Eubanks in an amount
not to exceed $25,000.00 for installation of a new Pier Carousel
roof. Discussion was held. Member of the public, David G. Cameron
spoke regarding h~s concern for an exterior surface which
appearance coincides with that of the h~storical appearance of the
Carousel. councilrnember Conn moved to approve the staff
recommendation for a change order to Contract No. 3458{CCS) not to
exceed $25,000 to install a new rocf and fix downspouts, urg~ng
staff to be as historically consistent as possible in selection of
materials to be used. Second by Mayor Pro Tempore Edwards. After
discussion the motion was approved by the following vote:
