Paul Rosenstem
Mayor
City of Santa MOnIca
Dear Paul,
A recent decISiOn by the City CouncIl regardmg re-appomtments to the Bayside DIstrIct
Board, has me somewhat disconcerted
I am referrmg to the majority on the council votmg to "not re-appoInt" Barbara Tenzer to the
Board What concerns me are the reasons given for the actIon You, Mayor, have suggested
that your pOSltlon came from a beltef that as a real estate broker and havmg a small
mvestment In a restaurant on the Promenade, Barbara Tenzer has a conflIct of Interest
Researchmg the past and present male board members Will show that there have been many
servmg on the Board, who have had qUite the Identical vested business mterests on the
Promenade It certamly seems as If thiS adamant positron agamst reappomtmg thiS woman,
(a pOSItiOn that appears to be contrary to the Wishes of many m both the Bayslde Merchants
and Restaurant ASSOCiatIOns), IS not consistent With the City councd's past deCISIOns, when
men were re-appomted The mSlstence to keep thiS woman off of the Board of Bayslde,
mdlcates a gender dlscnmmatlOn
I know that Santa Momca has pnded Itself In bemg a progressive City, and m the forefront
where opposmg dlscnmmatlOn IS concerned It would be a shame on thiS CIty for us' City
councIl maJonty to take such a bIased stance
I hope thiS very senous Issue can be addressed whtle there IS strll an opportumty to appomt
thIS very valuable woman to the Board of Bayslde DIstnct
Best regards,
