It 15 requested that Coundl discuss a grant to "No Oil, Inc." for support
of litigation against oil drllling near the coastline.
A grant to
No Oil to advance its lawsuit would probably be in support of a proper
public purpose, and therefore, legal.

of Counc~lmember Katz to d~scuss Los Angeles City CouncIL's and
Mayor Bradley's approval of allowing 011 drilling in Pacific
Palisades. Councilmember Katz introduced dIScussIon.

Mayor of Los Angeles and Los Angeles Ci ty Council In regard to
theIr deCISion to allow oil drlll~ng in PacIf~c Pallsades, direct
staff to investlgate optIons for supportIng the presumed laWSUIts
involved and how Cou~cll mIght playa supportive role there, and
report on the cost and timellness of getting a hydro-geologIst to
aSSIst the City i~ getting Information about the aquIfer Issues.
Councllmember Zane Included in the motIon Mayor Reed's suggestioP
to dIrect staff to report on a time frame and the amou~t of work
needed toward developIng a good oppositlon program to put before
the Coastal CommIssIon. Secopd by CouncIlmember Katz. After
discusslon, the motion was approved by unanImous vote.
