SUBJECT: Funding for Research Assistance
This letter is a request for the Council to reconsider its action
of october 15th in approving only a portion of the funds
requested by the Commission for staff assistance.
While the
commission appreciates the additional funds made available for
city Manager I s Office staff support to the Comm.ission, we feel
that there may have been a misunderstanding about the purpose of
the requested work by a historian.
The information desired would be used to form the basis for
analytical judgments about the City's electoral system rather
than as background for a legal review of legislative compliance.
It is requested that an amount not to exceed $10,000 be made
available to proceed with this work.
Commissioners will be present at the December 3rd meeting to
address the Council.
