SUBJECT: Street Improvements--Ocean Park Boulevard from Tenth Court to
Lincoln Boulevard
Introduction
Th1S report recommends that the staff be authorized to design street improvements
on Ocean Park Boulevard from Tenth Court to Llncoln Boulevard to provlde add1-
t1ona1 intersection capac1ty and to i~prove safety.
Background
Ocean Park Boulevard, east of L~ncoln Boulevard is presently 45 feet w1de and 1S
strlped to facil1tate two travel lanes 1n each dlrection. There is not sufflC1ent
wldth to provlde a left turn lane. The Staff proposes to wlden Ocean Park Boulevard
ten feet on the north side and three feet on the south slde to provide a left turn
lane into the shopplng center and to serve traffic desir1ng to travel south bound
on Llncoln Boulevard. In add1t10n this project will provide lanes suff1ciently
wide to satlsfy current safety standards. There were 38 accidents at this inter-
sectlon in 1978 and staff believes that this improvement will sign1f1cantly red~ce
thlS flgure, since the easterly leg of the lntersection is the only substandard
port1on of the 1ntersect10n.
No add1tlonal rlght of way w1ll be requ1red for thlS project which lS esti~ated to
cost approxlmately $40,000. Gas Tax Funds are ~vailable for thlS prOJect. Three
I
street trees wlll be removed and 15 wlll be planted.
