SUBJECT: Street Improvements--Ocean Park Boulevard from Tenth Court to
Lincoln Boulevard
Introductlon
ThlS report recommends that the staff be author1zed to des1gn street improvements
on Ocean Park Boulevard from Tenth Court to L1nco1n Boulevard to provide add1-
t10nal intersectlon capacity and to l~prove safety.
Background
Ocean Park Boulevard, east of Lincoln Boulevard 1S presently 45 feet wide and 1S
strlped to facll1tate two travel lanes 1n each d1rectlon. There is not suff1c1ent
w1dth to provide a left turn lane. The Staff proposes to w1den Ocean Park Boulevard
ten feet on the north slde and three feet on the south slde to provlde a left turn
lane into the shopping center and to serve traffic desirlng to travel south bound
on Llncoln Boulevard. In additlon th1S project will provlde lanes sufficlently
wlde to satlsfy current safety standards. There were 38 accldents at thlS lnter-
section 1n 1978 and staff belleves that th1S 1mprovement wlll signlf1cantly reduce
th1S f1gure, Slnce the easterly leg of the lntersect10n is the only substandard
port1on of the 1ntersection.
No add1tional r1ght of way w11l be requ1red for this project Wh1Ch is estimated to
cost approximately $40,000. Gas Tax Funds are avallab1e for this project. Three
street trees w1ll be removed and 15 w111 be planted.

Recommendation

for the above project and advertise for blds on the proJect.
