INTRODUCTION
This report provides the City Council with information related to
the narrowing of Main street as approved by the City Council in
November 1991.
BACKGROUND
As part of the approval of the Main street Master Plan and
Ordinance Revisions, the city Council directed staff to proceed
on a temporary hasis with the narrowing of Main street from two
lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction with left
turn lanes. The implementation of the temporary improvements
will occur after the Main street water main improvements are
completed. The water main construction is anticipated to be
completed in early June and the restriping for the narrowing will
take place shortly thereafter.
staff is coordinating the proposed General services improvements
with the temporary restriping of Main street. The restriping

will be in place for approximately six months during which time
staff will evaluate the traffic impacts and return to Council
with a recommendation on whether or not the street narrowing
should become permanent. Depending on the extent of the
permanent improvements, implementation may take up to two years.
In January, after the evaluation is completed, the streets will
be resurfaced and sidewalk/gutter repairs will be undertaken.
Temporary repairs to the sidewalks will be conducted in the
interim.
BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
The recommendation presented in this report does not have a
budget or fiscal impact.
