Introductlon
ThlS report outlines the Clty/State Coastal Conservancy J01nt work program
for Santa Monica P1er restoration
Background
In September 1981. the Californla State Coastal Conservancy Board authorized
ltS staff to assist the City of Santa Monlca in preparation of a restoration
and reuse plan for the Santa Mon1ca Pler. The Board authorized an expendlture
of up to $30.000 to conduct publ1C workshops and employ profess1onals in
evaluationof restoratlon feasibillty and preparation of a restorat1on plan.
In November 1981 the C1ty Counc1l established a Pler Restoratlon Task Force.
The Councll 1S scheduled to appo1nt the task force members at the January 12th.
1982 meet1ng.
In order to proceed with the preparat10n of the restoration plan 1n a timely
manner. the Coastal Conservancy staff has prepared the attached work program.
The Clty staff has some reservat10ns about the program and lntends to dlSCUSS
~ogram revlsions wlth the State Conservancy staff and the Pier Task Force,
