Clty Attorney to prepare a resolutlon formal1zlnq the creatlon
of a Crlne Preventlon Task Force.

the accOITpanYlnq resolutlon 15 presented to the Clty Councll for
1ts approval, approval wlth amend~ents, or dlsapproval.

A RESOLUTION OF TEE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA liONICA FOm.....tALIZING TEE
CREATION OF A C:rlIim PREVENTIO}J TASK FORCE
WEEREAS, on April 14, 1981, the voters approved
Pro~osltlon A vhlch requlres, among other thlngs, that the Clty
Counell adopt, by ordinance, a comprehenslve crine preventlon
program, and
~mEREAS, the City Councll deSlres to forn a Crlne
Preventlon ?ask Force to aSs1st the Clty Councll In preparlng the
plan requlred by Proposlt1on A, and
\~iEREAS, the Clty Councll created a Crlme Prevent10n
Tas~ Force at its Aprll 22, 1981 meet1ng and requested the Clty
Attorney to prepare a resolut1on forma1lz~ng such creatlon,
NOH, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLL~JS:
SECTIO~ 1. That a Crlme Preventlon Task Force lS hereby
created conslst1ng of not less than 13 members to be appolntec by
the Clty Councll, of whom at least eight wll1 be members of the
publlC wlth slgnlflcant representatlon of eXlstlng nelghborhood and
comnunlty organ1zat1ons lnvolved ln crlne prevention prograns, four
wlll be from law enforcenent agencles, 1ncludlng the Chle= of
Pollce or hlS deslgnee and at least two Ilne offlcers fro~ the Santa
Monlca Pollee Depart~ent, and one member of the C1ty Council.

SECTION 2. The Crlme Preventlon Task ?orce lS d~rected
to asslst the C1ty Councl1 in preparat~on of a cr~me prevent10n
plan and shall make recoromendatlons concernlng the staff~ng of
the Pollee DepartMent, methods of lnvolvlng communlty oraanlzatlons
and utlllzlng co~~unlty outreach In cr~ne preventlon, lmprovlng
bUllclns securlty and nelghborhood llqhtlng and any ordlnances
necessary for such lMprovement, l~proving the eff~clency of the
Pollce Departrrent and existlng facllltles, and such other
rec6~~endatlons as requested by the Clty Councll.
SECTION 3. Prlor to maklng lts recomrnendatlons, each
menber of the Crlme Preventlon Task Force wlll have partlclpated
In the Pollce Department's rlde-along progran and the Cr1me
Preventlon Task Force wlIl have received publlC testlITOny and
lnput at one or more well-publlclzed occasions.
SECTION 4.
The Crlffie Preventlon Task Force wl11 make
ltS reports and reco~mendat1ons 1n accordance w1th the deadl1nes
establ1shed by the C1ty Councll.
SECTlm.T 5.
The Clty Clerk shall certlfy to the adoptlon
of thlS resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the sa~e shall
be 1n full force ano effect.
