SR-106-011-02 (2) F:\CMANAGER\Staff Reports\CVB.doc Council Meeting: August 14, 2001 Santa Monica, CA TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Contract with the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau. Introduction This staff report recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute a modification of the agreement with the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). Background The formal relationship between the City and the CVB has been governed by an agreement outlining the roles and responsibilities of each party. The agreement provides the basis for conveyance of funds from the City which substantially support the work of the CVB. In return, the CVB actively and strategically markets Santa Monica as a destination and provides information and services to visitors. The agreement with the CVB expired on July 1, 1999 and the parties have negotiated a modification of this agreement. 1 Discussion The term of the agreement will be five years, retroactive to July 1, 1999 and its terms will be similar to those in prior contracts. Base funding for the CVB commencing July 1, 2001 will be $1,200,000. Cost of Living increases based on the regional CPI for all urban consumers will be effective on each subsequent July 1, subject to annual Council appropriation. From time to time during the term of the agreement, the CVB and the City will review the state of the tourism market, the revenue provided by the Transient Occupancy Tax and other relevant factors to determine whether any adjustment to the base funding is warranted for specific purposes. Financial/Budget Impact Base funding for this contract is included in the recently adopted budget for FY 2001/02 at account 01274.566220 . Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute a modification of the agreement with the Santa Monica Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
