SR-106-004 (7) (' ~ - e /0-4 SEP t fJ 1985 f 00- 00 y AC:DC:bh Council Mtg. 9/10/85 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and city council FROM: Arts Commission SUBJECT: Recommendations for Appointments to fill Vacancies on the Board of Directors of the Santa Monica Arts Foundation INTRODUCTION This report recommends that Council approve the appointments of eleven persons to fill vacancies on the Board of Directors of the Santa Monica Arts Foundation. BACKGROUND At its meeting on March 26, 1985, Council approved several amend- ments to the Bylaws of the Santa Monica Arts Foundation. One of these amendments increased the number of Directors from "nine" to "between nine and fifteen." Subsequent to the passage of this amendment, several members of the Board of Directors have re- signed. These persons included Arts Commissioner Max Benavidez, Arts commissioner Herbert Kendall, Elyse Grinstein, william Mor- tensen, and Franklin Schaffner. Due to these resignations and the change in bylaws, a maximum of eleven vacancies currently exists on the Arts Foundation1s Board of Directors. - 1 - /0-4 SEP 1 0 1985 ~ ~ e e Acccording to the Bylaws of the Foundation as approved by Council on February 28, 1984, vacancies on the Board are filled by Coun- cil upon the recommendation of the Arts Commission. At its meet- ings on July l5 and August 19, 1985, the Arts Commission voted to recommend that the following eleven persons be appointed to the Board: Patricia Dougherty, who resides at 725 Adelaide Place, Santa Monica, is a partner in Gilliland's restaurant on Main street. Jennifer Flinton, who resides at 1038 Palisades Beach Road, Santa Monica is senior vice President for Marketing and Communications at American Medical International, Beverly Hills. Sheila Goldberg, who resides at 15 Via Marina, Marina del Rey, is one of the organizers of the Venice Art Walk. Sandy Hill, a Santa Monica resident, is a news reporter for KCBS- TV, 6121 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood. Bobi Leonard, a Santa Monica resident, is an interior designer and owner of Bobi Leonard Interiors, 280l Main Street, Santa Monica. Alan Levin, a Santa Monica resident, is President of CBS Produc- tions, CBS/MTM studios, 1024 Radford Avenue, studio city. - 2 - ~ # e e George Rosenthal is a Santa Monica resident, a developer, and President of Raleigh Enterprises, 11444 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles. Scott siegler, a Santa Monica resident, is senior Vice president, Development, Warner Brothers, 4000 Warner Boulevard, Burbank. Martin Sosin is a member of the Arts commission, an attorney, and President of M. Sosin, Inc., 506 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica. Carl Workman, a Santa Monica resident, is Managing Partner of a film production company, Workman and Ruxin, l2140 Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles. Marvin Zeidler is the owner of Zeidler and Zeidler, 1804 Lincoln Boulevard, Santa Monica, and is an art collector and patron. All have a strong interest in the arts and will be catalysts for continuing support of the Foundation. BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT There is no budget impact on the City resulting from these ap- pointments to the Board of Directors of the Santa Monica Arts Foundation. - 3 - ~ e e RECOMMENDATION The Arts Commission respectfully recommends that Council appoint these persons to fill the eleven vacancies on the Board of Direc- tors of the Santa Monica Arts Foundation.
