Task Force on the Arts - Extension
of Tine For Staff Report and Authorization to Continue
Background
On January 12, 1982 the Citizens Task Force on the Arts presented a report to
City Council which included recommendations regarding the establishment of an
Arts Commission in Santa Monica. Council reviewed the report and forwarded
It to staff for further review. It was requested that City staff report back
to Council on January 26, 1982.
Discussion
City staff has reviewed the Task Force Report and met with key members of the
group to discuss areas where staff recommendations differ from those of the
Task Force. In an effort to present to Council a report which includes careful
consideration of Task Force recommendations and the constraints of City adminis-
tratlon, it is requested that the time period be extended until the meeting of
February 9, 1982
Additionally, it is requested that the Task Force on the Arts, as originally
constituted, be authorized to continue to meet until either Council decides
against the establishment of an Arts Commission or Arts Commissioners are
appointed. This action Will ensure a continuity of the work already done by
the Task Force In the area of advocacy of the arts in Santa Monica
Recommendation
City staff recommends City Council:
