SR-101-003-04-04
Council Meeting: August 8, 2000 Santa Monica, California
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Recommendation to Authorize the City Manager to Negotiate and Execute
a Contract with PeopleSoft, Inc. for an Extended Enterprise License to the
PeopleSoft Human Resource and Payroll Software.
INTRODUCTION
This report recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate
and execute a contract with PeopleSoft, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $27,063 for an
Extended Enterprise License to the PeopleSoft Human Resource and Payroll Software.
BACKGROUND
The City’s Human Resource and Payroll systems are created in and managed by
PeopleSoft software. The current software license limits the City to running the
software on one server, limiting the best use of City network resources. It also limits the
City to the use of client server software that has proven cumbersome to deploy,
maintain and support.
PeopleSoft has recently re-engineered its software for easier access to its systems and
developed new software features for employee self service applications. PeopleSoft
has also changed its software licensing approach, to allow software installation on an
unlimited number of City servers and desktop computers.
DISCUSSION
To take advantage of the PeopleSoft improvements, the City must purchase an
1
Extended Enterprise License to the PeopleSoft Human Resource and Payroll software.
This will improve software deployment, maintenance and support strategies.
BUDGET/FINANCIAL
The PeopleSoft Extended Enterprise license is a one-time cost and will not exceed
$27,063. Funds are available for FY 2000-2001 in account C01046700.589000.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute a
contract with PeopleSoft, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $27,063 for an Extended
Enterprise License to the PeopleSoft Human Resource and Payroll Software.
