Subject: Designation of City Manager to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School
District’s Superintendent Selection Community Advisory Committee
Introduction
This report recommends that the City Council designate the City Manager to represent
the City on a community advisory body regarding selection of a new Superintendent of
Schools.
Background
The Board of the Santa Monica – Malibu Unified School District is conducting a search
for Superintendent and has narrowed the field of candidates. They are asking
organizations and individuals to serve on a community advisory body that will interview
candidates and provide feedback to the Board and have asked that the City designate a
th
representative. Interviews will take place on the 18 of April.
Discussion
While the working relationship between the Superintendent and City Manager is an
important one for the community, the City Council may wish to designate one of
themselves, a Board or Commission member or another of the Council’s appointees.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council designate the City Manager to represent the
City on the community advisory committee for Superintendent selection.
