Award of Contract for Emergency Generator Rewiring and
stairwell Lighting Improvements
Introduction
This report requests that the city Council award a contract for
emergency generator rewiring and stairwell lighting improvements
at the Transportation Department facility to Electrical Systems
Engineering Company, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount
of $99,600.
Background
The existing emergency electrical generator system powers
selected maintenance equipment and portions of the Administration
Building.
The recent purchase of more energy efficient
maintenance equipment has provided the opportunity for additional
emergency power in the Administration Building. The rewiring of
the
emergency
generator
system
and
upgrading
of
the
Administration Building emergency lighting will provide back-up
electrical power throughout the Transportation Department
facility.
A Notice Inviting aids was published on May 1 and 2, 1989, in the
Evening Outlook and in four construction journals.
Bidding
documents were also forwarded to seven minority/women contracting
associations.
Bidding packages
were
requested
by
five

contractors. The bids were received, opened and publicly read by
the Deputy city Clerk on May 31, 1989. Four bids were received
as follows:

Recommendation
It is recommended that the city council:
1. Award a contract for emergency generator rewiring and
stairwell lighting improvements at the Transportation
Department facility to Electrical Systems Engineering
Company, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount
of $99,600; and
2. Authorize the city Engineer to issue any change orders
necessary to complete additional work to the extent of
funds available in accordance with the Administrative
Instruction on Change Orders.
