SR-1000-001-02 (8) Purch:PW:ML: F:\FINANCE\PURCH\STFRPTS\SRBDBUS VAULTS.DOC Council Meeting: September 24, 2002 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Purchase Order for the Purchase and Installation of Bus Stationary Vaults Introduction This report recommends award of a purchase order to GFI Genfare for the purchase and installation of five bus stationary vaults for the Transit Services Division, Big Blue Bus Department, in the total amount of $131,086.64, including applicable sales tax. Background The new fueling and wash facility includes a new coin collection and counting room which includes installation of five secure vaults to hold coins. The vaults must be compatible with fareboxes currently in use. GFI Genfare is the sole provider of compatible vaults and does not sell through a distributor network. Discussion Ordinance Number 1998 (CCS), Section 5, Chapter 2.24, Section 2.24.080 (a) of the Santa Monica Municipal Code allows exception to competitive bidding for proprietary items of original equipment manufacturers and/or their authorized exclusive distributors as in this case. Staff has evaluated the quotation submitted by GFI Genfare and finds that it meets City specifications. - 1 - Budget/Financial Impact Budget authority for this purchase is in the Capital Improvement Budget, account number C41010401.589000, “Facility Improvements”. Recommendation It is recommended that City Council award a purchase order to GFI Genfare in the total amount of $131,086.64, including applicable sales tax.
