AVAILABLE BY THE CALIFORNIA TR~NSPORTATION DEVELOPMENT ACT AND
AND STATE TRANSIT ASSISTANCE FUND
Introductlon
In order to recelve the partlon of the State sales tax proceeds to Wh1Ch the C1ty
1S entltled under the Transportatlon Development Act(TD~) and the State Translt
Asslstance Fund(STAF), the Clty Cauncll must authorlze the Clty Manager to flle
a clalm for the funds wlth the Southern Callfornia ASSoclatlon of Governments
(SCAG) and the Los Angeles County Transportatlon Commlsslon(LACTC).
Background
On February 23, 1982, the Santa Monlca City Council author1zed the Clty Manager
to flle a Short Range Translt P1an(SRTP) w1th L~CTC. In accordance wlth LACTC
gUlde11nes, the SRTP contalns three budgets based on the Department's receivlng
varY1ng percentages of 1ts formula share of the County's transportatlon funds.
After reVlew of the SRTP by the Comm1SSlon and lts final declslon on allocatlon
levels, It wll1 st111 be necessary for the Department to flIe c1a1ms for the
funds allocated. In FY 82 1 t lS antlC:lpated that Santa ~lonlca IS allocat1on wlll
be approxlmately $5.25 mllllon from TDA and $815,000 from STAF, if leglslatlon
now pendlng 1n Sacramento to reauthOY1Ze the State TransIt ASslstance Fund for
FY 83 1S approved,

GUldellnes for flllng the claims wlll be approved at the AprIl meetlng
of the SCAG ExecutIVe Committee. Santa Monlca's claIm wll1 be prepared and sub-
mltted to the Clty Manager for approval as soon as poss1b1e after the lnstruct-

Recommendation
It lS recommended that the Clty Manager be authoTlzed to file a clalID for funds
made aval1able to the Clty by the Ca11fornla Transportatlon Development Act and
the State Translt ASslstance Fund for use by the Santa Monlca Munlclpal Bus
Llnes.
