INTRODUCTION
At ItS meetIng of AprIl 15, 1985 the CIty PlannIng CommissIon
revlewed DR 291, ZA 4880-A, EIA 778, for a proposed hotel proJect
at 1700 Ocean Avenue In Santa MonIca.
The CommiSSion faIled to
adopt a motIon regardIng the proJect, effectIvely denYIng the
applIcatIon.
ThIS actIon has been appealed to the CIty Counc 11
by bo th the
applIcant and
Mayor
ChristIne
Reed.
Staff
recommendatIon IS to grant the appeals and app["ove the proJect
WIth condItIons.
BACKGROUND
The proposed proJect (DR 291) would amend DR 098, approved by the
PlannIng CommISSIon In June 1983. DR 098 Included demolitIon of
the eXIsting motel at the SIte and construction of a 4-story,
